Using a Landline? Let the County Know!

Sullivan County is asking residents and businesses to participate in a short survey to determine how many people continue to use traditional copper-based landline telephone service.

Verizon has applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to retire what is known as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS).

District 3 Legislator Brian McPhillips, who helped create the survey, expressed concern that many residents and businesses still depend on landlines for personal communication, business operations, medical needs and emergencies. Losing this service could create significant challenges, particularly in areas with limited cellular or internet coverage.
